1 dead, 1 injured in separate shootouts in West Bengal’s Bhatpara
A man was killed and another was injured in two different shooting incidents in a span of 12 hours in Bhatpara, in the North 24 Parganas district, triggering anger among the locals on Saturday.
The first incident took place in the Shanti Nivas Palli area of Bhatpara municipality. The deceased was identified as 18-year-old Rohit Das. On Saturday evening, a miscreant allegedly shot him at his doorstep. His relatives said that when Rohit was about to leave for his night shift, the accused shot at him.
His father, Pradeep Das, came out of the house when he heard gunshots. Rohit was rushed to Bhatpara State General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case was registered and an investigation has been initiated to arrest the accused.
In another incident, a person was shot in the Bakar Mahal area of Bhatpara. The incident took place on Saturday morning. The victim was identified as Salahuddin Ansari (35). Police said Ansari was a local trader. Two people were arrested in this case.
The accused were identified as, Sahajada Akram and Wasim Akram. Police suspect personal rivalry as the motive behind the crime.
